CIBI Events
CIBI Conferences and Conventions

CIBI's conferences (in odd numbered years) are designed to educate members of the Afrikan community about issues and prospects in Afrikan-centered education in general and specifically in CIBI. Unlike the convention, the conference is open to the public. CIBI's bi-annual conventions (in even numbered years) provide educators from CIBI schools and elsewhere, including family and individuals members, opportunities to share information on curricula and other Afrikan-centered education related matters. CIBI also installs its incoming Ndundu (leadership council) members during its convention. The 2007 CIBI Conference will be held November 9 - 10, 2007 in Atlanta, Georgia hosted by The Nsoromma School. The theme for the conference is "Afrikan-centered Education: Best Practices."

The goal of the conference will be to advance the mission of CIBI by providing its members and others who support CIBI's approach to Afrikan-centerd education with opportunities to share best practices and ideas related to curriculum, pedagogy, administration and institution building, in general, while strengthening the sense of community within CIBI. CIBI's Academic Exposition

An outgrowth of the 1976 Teacher Training Institute was the formation of a Pan-Afrikan Science Committee. This committee organized the first national science exhibition in April 1977, at Uhuru Sasa Shule in Brooklyn, New York. Since then, each year in a different city, over a 100 children of all ages participate in the only scientific exhibition of its kind in the United States.

The broad objective of the Science Expo is to provide an opportunity for our children to demonstrate their knowledge of science, mathematical and technical concepts. The students prepare projects that are evaluated in a uniquely non-competitive environment using an Afrikan criterion based on the Nguzo Saba (i.e., Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, Kuumba, Nia, and Imani).

In the recent times, CIBI has expanded its original Science Expo into an Academic Expo that includes but incorporates other fields of inquiry and study than the "sciences." CIBI's Annual Academic Expositions are held each year in April. Information regarding the 2007 Academic Expo is forthcoming. Asante sana (thank you very much).
